Requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree with a major in Applied Arts and Sciences include the following:
- Hours Required and General/College Requirements: A minimum of 120 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree.
- Major Requirements: 9 hours in Professional Foundation courses; including the following courses listed below. Note: Students must receive a C or better in APAS core curriculum classes.
- Professional Development Requirements: Completion of three interdisciplinary concentrations of courses consisting of 12 hours per concentration. One (12 hours) concentration area must be taken from UNT Dallas; choose from one of the following disciplines:
- Human Services Management & Leadership
- Criminal Justice
- Applied Gerontology
- Substance Abuse and Addiction
- Sociology
- Alternative Dispute Resolution
The remaining two concentration areas (24 hours) may come from any other department at UNT Dallas or may consist of technical/professional coursework already completed at a community college (or in the military) as part of an associate’s degree.
Note: A certificate can be used as a Professional Development area; please see your advisor for specifics.
- Occupational Specialization Requirements: The occupational specialization degree component consists of 21 hours of credits from courses related to a specific job or field of study. For many BAAS students, it typically consists of the field or occupationally-specific coursework they completed for their associate’s degree.
- GPA Requirements: All students entering the APAS program must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 to qualify for graduation.
