Requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree with a major in Applied Arts and Sciences include the following:

  1. Hours Required and General/College Requirements: A minimum of 120 semester hours, of which 42 must be advanced, and fulfillment of degree requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree.
  2. Major Requirements: 9 hours in Professional Foundation courses; including the following courses listed below. Note: Students must receive a C or better in APAS core curriculum classes.
  3. Professional Development Requirements: Completion of three interdisciplinary concentrations of courses consisting of 12 hours per concentration. One (12 hours) concentration area must be taken from UNT Dallas; choose from one of the following disciplines:
    1. Human Services Management & Leadership
    2. Criminal Justice
    3. Applied Gerontology
    4. Substance Abuse and Addiction
    5. Sociology
    6. Alternative Dispute Resolution

The remaining two concentration areas (24 hours) may come from any other department at UNT Dallas or may consist of technical/professional coursework already completed at a community college (or in the military) as part of an associate’s degree.
Note: A certificate can be used as a Professional Development area; please see your advisor for specifics.

  1. Occupational Specialization Requirements: The occupational specialization degree component consists of 21 hours of credits from courses related to a specific job or field of study. For many BAAS students, it typically consists of the field or occupationally-specific coursework they completed for their associate’s degree.
  2. GPA Requirements: All students entering the APAS program must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 to qualify for graduation.
