Analyzes the formation of new states; the conflict between federalist and centralist groups; the role of caudillos in regional politics; the rise and crisis of export economies; international relations and the Cold War; US involvement in Latin American affairs; the Mexican and Cuban Revolutions; military governments and security structures; and current events in the region.
